HMI solution for contactless dosing in the laboratory

For the I.DOT Liquid Handler from DISPENDIX, MICHEL ITC developed a bespoke HMI solution featuring curved, tempered glass and a fully optically bonded 10.1-inch touchscreen. This high-quality user interface integrates seamlessly into the modern laboratory instrument, combining sophisticated design with reliable functionality.

When it comes to the contactless dispensing of minute volumes of liquid, precision, reproducibility and process reliability are key. This is precisely why DISPENDIX has developed the I.DOT Liquid Handler, a laboratory instrument designed for environments where every detail must function reliably.

The challenge

The user interface also had to meet these requirements. The brief called for a control unit that would integrate seamlessly, both visually and functionally, into the device housing, be intuitive to use and emphasise the product’s premium character. The combination of curved glass, a touchscreen and precise mechanical mounting presented a particularly challenging technical task.

Our solution

MICHEL ITC developed a bespoke HMI unit featuring curved, toughened glass and a fully optically bonded 10.1-inch touchscreen. The result is a high-quality front-panel solution that combines design, functionality and reliable operation in a compact design.

The curved glass defines the device’s modern appearance and blends harmoniously with the shape of its housing. Additional durability is provided by a ceramic print on the rear, which is particularly robust and long-lasting compared to conventional printing processes.

Full-surface optical bonding eliminates the air gap between the components. This reduces distracting reflections, improves the display’s readability and enhances the visual quality.

Another distinctive feature lies in the mechanical integration: aluminium brackets are bonded to the rear of the curved glass, enabling the HMI unit to be fitted precisely within the device housing. This has combined the design and engineering requirements into a well-thought-out overall solution.

Head of branch and Project Manager Jürgen Korenjak oversaw the project from the technical coordination phase right through to implementation:

«The particular challenge lay in precisely coordinating the curved glass, the optically bonded touchscreen and the mechanical mounting. With the ceramic printing on the rear and the bonded aluminium brackets, we were able to deliver a solution that is impressive both technically and aesthetically.»

The I.DOT Liquid Handler is now in use in laboratories. We would be happy to advise you on similar requirements for glass fronts, touchscreens and housing integration.
