Up in the air – a silicone button takes off

This silicone button from MICHEL ITC literally goes up high. The on/off button is part of the “Ultra Pro” ultrasonic camera, which was developed by Distran. Such a camera has been on board the International Space Station (ISS) since 2020, where it is used to detect leaks.

The Swiss company Distran develops innovative solutions for the precise detection of gas leaks and is the world's leading manufacturer of ultrasonic cameras.

Distran turned to MICHEL ITC for the operation of its ultrasonic cameras. In addition to robustness, simple one-handed operation was an absolute must for the 1.5 kg camera. MICHEL ITC worked closely with those responsible to develop a customized solution. This included the design, development and delivery of the prototypes through to series production of the silicone buttons.

These ultrasound cameras are in use in more than 40 countries and have also been on board the International Space Station (ISS) since 2020. On board is the Distran Ultra Pro, a new type of ultrasound camera that can localize gas leaks based on their ultrasonic emission. NASA selected the Distran Ultra Pro to improve leak detection in the ISS.

We are very proud that our products are even being used in space!
