At the latest since the hype surrounding Tesla cars, electric vehicles are on the rise everywhere. In Winterthur, for example, the Swiss manufacturer Designwerk GmbH is building a range of electric truck versions together with various project partners and our customer Batteriewerk Schweiz AG.
Electrification is particularly suitable for road sweeping logistics: With a short daily range of around 70 kilometers and daily use in residential areas and urban centers, the electric drive concept makes particular sense. When stopping to collect waste, conventional trucks cause noise and pollutant emissions. An electric truck, on the other hand, allows the energy released during braking to be recovered, permits faster acceleration, and is also low-odor and low-noise.
The actual vehicle drive - the heart of the truck - is provided by four electric motors with an output of 760 hp and an efficiency of up to 97 percent. The necessary power is supplied by two high-performance electricity storage units, each weighing 1.1 tons (!) and each with 133kWh of usable energy, which were specially developed by our customer Batteriewerk Schweiz AG.
For these batteries, the company was looking for two different-sized markings that would stick perfectly, be extremely durable and not be affected by external influences such as heat, cold, water, oil or splinters.
Based on the requirements, Doris Dethomas, the labeling and branding specialist at MICHEL ITC, suggested a back-printed front foil to the customer. This is already protected against dirt and mechanical damage by design, as it is constructed according to the sandwich method (polycarbonate film | printing | adhesive). Equally important was the selection of the appropriate adhesive, especially because the one front foil has an impressive size of 44 x 32 cm. After a series of prototypes, the first series of front foils was delivered shortly afterwards and is now being installed.
